Mike started out spinning records, yes records, vinyl records at the local roller skating rink at the age of 16. That job started his interest in radio broadcasting and even won a contest on the local Top 40 station at the time, FUN 102, for a scholarship to take broadcasting classes. Mike continued at the roller rink while also starting a Portable DJ business with friends, called “Spinning Discs.” Spinning Discs was very successful getting booked in some instances over a year in advance. That’s where a life long friendship with who we call around here as “Other Mike” and I promise he has a last name. “Other Mike also works with Wolverine Radio.
Mike has worked for many area radio stations including, WFAN (not the one in NY), WORQ, 102.3 THE WAVE, ROCK 102, WNLC/WTYD when they were in New London, and where it all started, WINY in Putnam where Mike claims he learned the craft. To this day, Mike still credits the past and present owners of that station for the time they took to teach me when I was young.
Mike left the broadcasting industry for almost 15 years where he worked in local to mid level Management for 2 very large retail companies, one not so big anymore. Mike is married to his “smokin’ hot wife” Liana, and has enough kids for a small orphanage. He loves music, anyplace there is water, telling the kids that Rhiana is his favorite child (not really true, but it gets their goats), Slot machines way too much, and trying to make a positive impact on the Communities of Griswold, Plainfield, and the Borough of Jewett City. Listen to Mike and Various co-hosts Monday – Friday, 7a-10a on Wolverine Radio

About Other Mike
Being new to radio, I bring a mechanical background with Handyman skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and auto repair. I have 30 years as a Mobile DJ, including designing my own sound systems as a side hobby.
Behind the scenes is where I get the most work done, because I’m not having to answer the questions asked of the front person (yes I am a past business owner).
At present I am a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, working on my Masters in Early Childhood Education. When it comes to learning something new like radio, if I don’t know it I will learn it. In my process of learning I learn from my successes and failures, so if things go wrong I will figure it out or find out how to fix it.
Finally, I am the opposite when it comes to skills than Mike (the boss) so that makes me the other Mike.

Phil Michel is one of two members of the Wolverine Radio crew still in high school. It being his senior year, Phil has had the pleasure of enjoying the many experiences his education has provided him thus far.
You might have seen Phil on stage before in one of Griswold High School’s shows. Phil has performed in his high school’s fall dramas and musicals since his freshmen year. He’s played numerous roles, including the flamboyant Lester in Long Island Sound, Terk in Tarzan: The Musical, and Willard in Footloose: The Musical. This year you might have seen him play the Dragon in Chasing Charming.
Every morning at school, Phil does the weather portion of his school’s morning announcements. Although he’s not the greatest meteorologist, he does enjoy delivering the forecast (even when it’s wrong). Phil is secretary of the Griswold High School Chamber Choir, where he sings tenor. He also plays the bass. He plays the electric bass guitar for his school’s steel drum band and double bass for his school’s jazz band, string ensemble, and the Thames Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Phil loves being part of the Wolverine Radio crew. He finds it fun and exciting. Additionally, Phil loves the awesome people he’s met thus far.
