Host of “Wolverine Wake-Up” 7a-10a
Mike started out spinning records, yes records, vinyl records at the local roller skating rink at the age of 16. That job started his interest in radio broadcasting and even won a contest on the local Top 40 station at the time, FUN 102, for a scholarship to take broadcasting classes. Mike continued at the roller rink while also starting a Portable DJ business with friends, called “Spinning Discs.” Spinning Discs was very successful getting booked in some instances over a year in advance. That’s where a life long friendship with who we call around here as “Other Mike” and I promise he has a last name. “Other Mike also works with Wolverine Radio.
Mike has worked for many area radio stations including, WFAN (not the one in NY), WORQ, 102.3 THE WAVE, ROCK 102, WNLC/WTYD when they were in New London, and where it all started, WINY in Putnam where Mike claims he learned the craft. To this day, Mike still credits the past and present owners of that station for the time they took to teach me when I was young.
Mike left the broadcasting industry for almost 15 years where he worked in local to mid level Management for 2 very large retail companies, one not so big anymore. Mike is married to his “smokin’ hot wife” Liana, and has enough kids for a small orphanage. He loves music, anyplace there is water, telling the kids that Rhiana is his favorite child (not really true, but it gets their goats), Slot machines way too much, and trying to make a positive impact on the Communities of Griswold, Plainfield, and the Borough of Jewett City. Listen to Mike and Various co-hosts Monday – Friday, 7a-10a on Wolverine Radio

About Other Mike
Being new to radio, I bring a mechanical background with Handyman skills in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and auto repair. I have 30 years as a Mobile DJ, including designing my own sound systems as a side hobby.
Behind the scenes is where I get the most work done, because I’m not having to answer the questions asked of the front person (yes I am a past business owner).
At present I am a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, working on my Masters in Early Childhood Education. When it comes to learning something new like radio, if I don’t know it I will learn it. In my process of learning I learn from my successes and failures, so if things go wrong I will figure it out or find out how to fix it.
Finally, I am the opposite when it comes to skills than Mike (the boss) so that makes me the other Mike.

Host of the PMS Show (Phil Michel Show), M-F 12p-2p
If you’ve ever tuned into Wolverine Radio, you’ve likely heard the voice of Phil Michel. Phil works as a news anchor for the station, providing listeners with local and state stories heard every hour. He also serves as a DJ for a few hours on weekdays for the “Phil Michel Show” (cleverly abbreviated to “PMS”).
Phil also works with Griswold Youth Family and Services (or GYFS). From fall to summer you may find him at the Griswold Youth Center. In the summer, he traditionally works as a counselor for GYFS’ Summer Rec Program. You might also notice him at town events, as he is employed by Griswold’s Parks and Recreation Department (GYFS’s spiritual cousin).
Outside of his vocational life, Phil is a college student, currently studying at Three Rivers Community College. He hopes to acquire an Associate’s Degree before transferring to a second school.
Phil is currently in the midst of a cinematic quest, searching for great movies. Consequently, he frequents the local theater, bearing pencils and a notepad, to check out new movies. If he isn’t interested in seeing anything playing in the theater, he picks one from his personal collection, which includes an ever-expanding section of movies he has yet to see.
In addition to watching movies, Phil enjoys reading, listening to music, and thinking. As for the latter, subjects vary from ideas for artistic works to existential questions. He also enjoys a few particular video games.
Though reading about Phil is certainly insightful, you ought to listen to him as well. Tune in to Wolverine Radio to hear Phil and other friends on air!
