Jewett City Resident State Trooper TFC Cote Lists New Pistol Permit Requirements and Fees
Recently, the Jewett City Resident State Trooper, TFC Russell Cote listed the New Pistol Permit State Requirements and Fees on their official Facebook Page. Below is the list of requirements. 1. Fill out the pistol permit application which can be found at CT.GOVand enter (Pistol Permit Application into search box and have it notarized. 2. Complete and provide a COPY of your NRA Firearms Safety Course Certificate. 3. Provide a passport size photo to the Resident Trooper’s Office (Picture does NOT need to be official passport photo.) 4. Fingerprints- an applicant card for the State Police can be completed at the Jewett City Resident State Troopers Office or Troop E in Montville. The hours for fingerprints at Troop E are every day at 8:00 AM, 4:00 PM or 12:00 AM (Fingerprinting will be done at the Jewett City Resident Troopers Office for Borough and Town residents ONLY.) 5. The following bank checks or money orders (NO PERSONAL CHECKS) must be presented when you submit your application: One (1) bank check or money order made out to “Treasurer State of Connecticut” in the amount of $12.00. One (1) bank check or money order made out to “Treasurer State of Connecticut” in the amount of $75.00. One (1) bank check or money order made out to “Treasurer State of Connecticut” in the amount of $15.00. One (1) bank check or money order made out to the “Borough of Jewett City” in the amount of $70.00. (It is a total of four checks and the current fees have been in effect since October 2009 and are mandated by state statute) 6. Upon completing steps 1-5 your print cards will be sent out for a criminal history check. If the criminal history check is negative and or shows no disqualifying information the Jewett City Resident Trooper, at his or her discretion, may issue a TEMPORARY state pistol permit. The temporary permit is valid for a period of sixty (60) days from the date it is signed by the Resident Trooper, during which time the applicant must go to Middletown or Troop E in Montville to obtain a state permit. The state permit will require an additional bank check or money order in the amount of $70.00 made out to “DPS”. The entire process typically takes approximately four to six weeks. Please refer to the Special Licenses and Firearms Unit brochure for state permit locations and additional information. The Jewett City Resident Trooper Office does not issue state permits.
