Moosup Resident States He Avoided Hitting a Deer Before Accident On Sunday

On Sunday August 19, 2018 at approximately 8:46 P.M., members of the Plainfield Police Department, Atwood Hose Fire Department, and American Legion Ambulance responded to a one car motor vehicle crash in the area of Moosup Pond Roadand Green Hollow Road in the Wauregan section of Plainfield, Connecticut.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unoccupied 2005 Dodge Neon with heavy front end damage. Through investigation,  it was determined that the operator of the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Moosup Pond Road when the vehicle traveled off of the roadway, striking a tree. Witnesses informed officer that the operator had left the scene and was walking eastbound on Moosup Pond Road.

Officers later made contact with the operator of the vehicle, 67 year old Kenneth M. Plantier of Lake Street in Moosup. While speaking to Plantier, he stated that a deer crossed in front of his vehicle causing him to travel off of the road way, striking a tree. After officers observed several lacerations on Plantier, emergency medical services were requested to the scene.

Plantier was later transported by American Legion Ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, Connecticut to be treated for possible minor injuries. Plantier was also issued a Misdemeanor Summons for Evading Responsibility and Failure to Maintain Lane and scheduled to appear at the Danielson Superior Court on September 4, 2018.

This crash remains under investigation.
