Public Meeting on Upper and Lower Slater Mill Pond Dam Removal Project Set for June 6, 2018 in Griswold

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will be hosting a public informational meeting at 7 p.m. on June 6, 2018, to discuss the proposed dam removal project for the Upper (City Pond) and Lower (United Pond) Slater Mill Pond dams located in Griswold, Connecticut. DEEP is proposing to remove these state owned dams due to public safety, regulatory and liability issues as well as the maintenance and repair costs involved.

The public meeting will be held at the Senior Center located at 22 Soule Street in Griswold. Staff from DEEP and their consultant, Fuss and O’Neill, will provide an update on planning activities to date, the reasons dam removal is needed. Designs plans will be on exhibit to show the proposed final condition of the Pachaug River once the dams are removed. Ample time will be provided on the agenda to seek public input and to answer questions and concerns about these planned activities.

Planning for the dam removals began in November 2016 and is scheduled to be completed by April 2020. DEEP provides reasonable accommodations for all persons with disabilities to participate in agency programs and activities.
